In this seminar, we deal with the dynamics of a test particle interacting with a low density background gas. Under the assumption that the interaction is weak, one can derive a Lindblad master equation for the evolution of the test particle [1,2]. Here, we will exploit a general perturbative approach to the dynamics of open quantum systems; namely, the time-convolutionless projection operator technique [3]. This allows to highlight the role of the Markovian assumption, as well as the difficulties which are usually encountered in the derivation of a quantum counterpart of the linear Boltzmann equation [4,5].
